Firstly, we feel we should apologize for being yet another reminder that gift-giving is around the corner, and for annoyingly emphasizing the speed at which this year is flying. We’re just offering a gentle reminder – and we’ve come with some useful advice, too.
Most of us wake up on the last minute; suddenly realising that it’s that time of year again – time to start planning for the festive season and shopping for gifts for our nearest and dearest, and our co-workers. It’s stressful enough being surprised by the fact that it’s already the end of the year – deciding on the perfect gifts to give, shouldn’t add to it. Sometimes the excitement is taken out of the giving because we’re stressed about whether or not we’re giving a ‘good enough’ Christmas gift. Buying for family and friends, who we know well, is difficult already, now buying for co-workers who we don’t always know on a personal basis, takes the task to a whole other level!
One bit of advice we can give you, when it comes to buying gifts for you co-workers, is to keep it simple and gender-neutral. Gender-neutral gifts are also not overly personal, which is a good thing. Some women don’t like girly-girl gifts and some men are not handy-men – so the conventional items such as a spa voucher for the lady and a tool-kit for the man, may not go down as well as you may have thought. Opt for practical gifts that can be used over and over, and will come in handy. People love gifts like this, because it looks like it was well thought through and it makes their lives easier, too.
If you’re desperate for some good ideas, take a look at our Christmas gift guide, which is angled at co-workers – although we’re not stopping you from using these awesome ideas for your family and friends, too!
A Cooler Bag
Possibly one of the most useful gifts – a cooler bag, is all about practicality and it certainly comes in handy, especially over the ‘leave’ period. People are going to be taking time off and will definitely be hitting the beaches during the summer, or picnicking with family and friends. A cooler bag is essential for keeping foods and drinks cold and fresh – no one can do without it! So, this will certainly make for the perfect and most useful gift!
A 2018 diary is a no-brainer. Every person – especially the work-going folk, will need a new diary for the upcoming year. A 2018 diary can be given to a male or a female, which makes it a ‘life-saver’ gift, especially when you have not the slightest clue of what to give. Just make sure it isn’t the corporate gift, given by the company – as this is a favourite.
A Desk Clock
Everyone needs to keep track of the time, especially when they’re trying to manage their time efficiently – (or want to know how close they are to home-time). A clock makes for a great co-worker gift because it’s just so fitting – the gift is for their office desk! Some clocks have useful place-holders for pens or sticky-notes which also helps to keep the desk in order.
A Set of Drinking Glasses
Seeing as this is the end of year, and Christmas and New Year’s celebrations are on the way, drinking glasses are ideal! Wine and champagne glasses are the most used when celebrating, and are always needed in one’s home.
A Stationery Kit
For some reason, office workers are always either losing their pens and stationery, or they completely forget to buy themselves a new set. A stationery set is fitting for a co-worker as they’ll need it on a day to day basis in the office – and it’s usually the type of essential item that they forget to stock up on.
A Beach Set
The summer season is fast approaching, and your co-worker will most likely be hitting the beaches. A beach set – which includes a beach bag, towel, and perhaps some beach games – e.g a bat and ball set or beach ball, will go down well, especially with the summer-loving folk.
A gift voucher, although not overly thoughtful, is a perfect gift for those co-workers that you don’t know overly well. Instead of spending money on something they may not like, giving them the opportunity to rather source their perfect gift, by giving them a gift voucher is a great way to get around this. If you want to come across a little more thoughtful – try and find out their favourite store or website, and get a gift voucher from this place.
A Picnic Set
A picnic set, filled with all the picnic essentials – a basket, glasses, a mat, cooler box, etc, is a special gift as well as a versatile one, too. The person will be able to use each item individually, or the entire set all at once. This gift makes life easier, and improves metabolism – as everything that is needed for a picnic can be stored, and carried in one place.
A personalised Mug
In most workplaces, people have their own mugs. Giving a personalised mug as a gift to your coworker, will set them apart from the rest and will also look like you put thought into the gift – whereas a mug that’s not personalised, could come across as a little ‘last-minute’.
A USB Stick
A USB stick is always needed in the office – people need to save files and materials that are both work-related and personal. This is another gift that is perfect for a male or a female and will certainly be appreciated by both.
