After being embarrassed by 2 loses to Cape Verde in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, Bafana Bafana have bounced back with an epic performance against Burkina Faso at the FNB Stadium (07/10/17) where they defeated the Burkinabe 3-1. This result means that South Africa still has a chance to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
It was a well rounded performance where all the team members made significant contributions to secure the victory because South Africa’s backs were against the wall. A defeat in this game would have meant game over for Russia 2018.
Percy Tau (1′), Themba Zungu (34′) and Sibusiso Vilakazi (45+1′) scored for Bafana while Alain Traore scored a consolation goal in the 86th minute. Bafana’s midfielder Bongani Zungu was red-carded in the 66th minute after a scuffle on the field but according to a soccer laduma article SAFA are set to appeal the red card as Zungu is an essential part of the squad and will be needed if Bafana is to secure two victories against Senegal.

Bafana Bafana is currently in last position in it’s world cup qualifiers group D with 4 points, Senegal are at the top of the group with 8 points. The two teams have 2 games remaining against each other to be played in November, this is after Bafana Bafana’s 2-1 victory against Senegal was annulled due to the Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey being found guilty of manipulating the match.
